Search engine optimization is a hot topic. It’s how we get readers and customers to find us online, and when it’s done well, it’s a perfect match between the reader and the website. They want what we’ve got, and we’ve got what they want. So the big question is: are you using the right keywords for your SEO? There are plenty of paid tools that will give you ideas for keywords such as keyword search volume and relative competition for ads. There are even some free tools for that kind of data.
But – and it’s a BIG but – those data don’t inform your strategy unless you know what keywords are right for you!
In this post, we’re going to talk about three ways to use the Google search engine for FREE and insightful information to add to your SEO strategy. With these insights, you can be sure the keywords you are using are the right keywords for to attract the very readers and customers who want what you’ve got – and that’s the ultimate goal for any search engine optimization strategy.
To make sure you are using the right keywords for SEO, follow these easy steps:
- Grab a computer.
- Write down the keywords you think are right for you. These can be keywords you’ve been using so far, or if you haven’t gone down this path yet, start by writing a handful of long-tailed keywords that you think pertain to your business and are used by your ideal customer. (Long-tailed keywords are phrases that someone would be searching for, such as “how to optimize your website for SEO”). You’ll need a starting point, and it is OK to guess if you haven’t done research on this yet.
- Put your computer in private search mode. This way your computer won’t be biased from your own prior search history.
